Insights:Marketing Insights: Research leads to well-being

March 30, 2018

At Insight Marketing Design we do a lot of research on a wide variety of subjects. Our research takes many forms, from primary research including focus groups,
internet questionnaires, phone surveys and consumer intercepts to secondary research where we search out existing research studies and analyze the data as it
relates to our client’s business.

We do all this research to learn more about our client’s businesses, to unearth interesting industry trends and to better understand our client’s customers needs
and wants. This information is then used to create compelling and insightful marketing messages and to ensure our marketing materials resonate with the
targeted audience.

Finding appropriate existing research takes a lot of searching and digging through reams of material. While we are doing this we often happen upon data that may not relate to the project we are working on but is still interesting.

A recent search for information about a specific segment of the agricultural industry revealed an interesting fact that is only tangentially related to the project we are
working on, but we felt it reinforces what most of us in South Dakota instinctively know. We live in a great state!

A 2017 Gallup Poll ranked South Dakota #1 in the country for well-being. This survey of 2.5 million people reflects how individuals feel about and experience their
daily lives.

The results were based on these five elements:

  • Purpose: liking what you do each day and being motivated to achieve your goals
  • Social: having supportive relationships and love in your life
  • Financial: managing your economic life to reduce stress and increase security
  • Community: liking where you live, feeling safe, and having pride in your community
  • Physical: having good health and enough energy to get things done daily

Besides getting the highest score overall, South Dakota was also ranked highest for purpose. This makes sense when you consider how hard, particularly in our
agricultural industry, South Dakotans work and the sense of accomplishment that can be realized knowing they are following a way of life that generations before
them have made possible.

You can see the complete Gallup poll here.

So if you live in South Dakota, congratulation for living in the state with the highest degree of well-being. If you don’t live in South Dakota the next best thing is to work with Insight on your next marketing project so you can share in all our well-being.
