Insights:They built this viral video…..

May 13, 2010

This post is looking for comments and discussion.

We’re curious to know your perspective on this phenom. One of our city’s neighbors to the south has produced a viral video to promote their city. For those not familiar with this area, we reside in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. If you follow the meandering Big Sioux River for 60+ miles south you’ll find Sioux City, Iowa.

A promotional video for Sioux City, Iowa, was uploaded to YouTube on May 7. We saw this video for the first time on May 10 and it had more than 10,000 views. (We were just happy that Sioux Falls hadn’t produced a video of this low caliber.) Here we are, three days later, and the video has more than 90,000 views.

There is a ton of negative chatter online. So, we pose the question… Is a viral video measured strictly by the number of people it reaches? If it is spread because of people’s disapproval, is it still a successful viral video? Please give us your thoughts and feedback.
