Insights:Only 2% of Consumers Won’t Be Buying Through Social Media

March 20, 2022

Almost everyone realizes that social media platforms offer a major selling opportunity. But according to a recent study by industry experts, they learned that in 2022 98% of consumers will purchase through social media. That’s almost everyone!

Crazy? Maybe, but the truth is social media is so ingrained in most peoples’ daily activities it makes it seem natural to buy through these platforms. It’s also most likely that the pandemic has normalized online buying faster than what would have happened if everyone wasn’t stuck at home for a year or more.

Demographic groups show preferences for particular types of social media platforms to buy through. For example, Gen Z prefers visual based platforms like Snapchat and Instagram, whereas Boomers tend to feel more comfortable buying through old-school platforms like Facebook.

The other thing marketers need to be aware of when it comes to social media sales is that it has become much more than just your product or service. Now people can search out companies that align with their cultural belief system. Things like inclusivity and charitable efforts are front and center while the consumer is making a purchasing decision.

There’s no denying that social media is a major sales driver in virtually every business category. Companies that don’t develop a strategic social media marketing plan may quickly find themselves falling behind their competitors that do.

As they say, fish where the fish are biting, and it’s obvious those fish are on social media.
